The only opposition party member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon AbdulRaheem Agboola has yet again been suspended for 14 legislative days by the leadership of the house over alleged contempt and breach of privilege of the house.
Hostility in the ongoing cold war between Agboola and leadership of the state house of Assembly heated up yesterday, when Hon Agboola was yet again denied entry into the House.
The embattled lawmaker said this latest access denial by the security personnel at the entry of the chamber was done at the behest of the Speaker of the House, Hon. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi.
Agboola while speaking with National Pilot described the move as a ploy by house leadership and the state government to silence and get rid of him
He said, “I was denied entrance into the sitting chamber by security personnel and they were acting on the order of the speaker of the House, Hon Yakub Danladi.
“It was done intentionally because the house was planning to discuss the passage of the state Budget today (yesterday) ,which is going into its second reading, I wasn’t even given a copy of the budget as I am entitled to
“The last time, I was only able to sit despite their insistence that I leave because I was already in the Chamber and I made it clear that I’m not leaving, but now, the speaker had already given a standing order that I shouldn’t be allowed into the house.” the beleaguered lawmaker said.
The Kwara House of Assembly has however announced that Agboola is now being ‘reprimanded’ by the house and will be suspended for 14 legislative days.
This was later confirmed by Agboola, he said, “They say they’re reprimanding me for 14 legislative days for alleged contempt and breach of privilege of the house and I was asked to write a letter of Apology to the house thereafter.”
When he was asked to state his next line of action, Agboola noted that he is with his party, PDP and he is ready to abide by the decision of the party., ” the party will take the appropriate action”, he said.
He however stressed that he is ready to defend the mandate of his constituency and make sure they’re not shortchanged.
The Peoples Democratic Party is yet to give an official statement to address the issue.
National Pilot however gathered that the party held a meeting at the party House to discuss a way out where it was agreed that the party Chairman, Rt Hon Babatunde Mohammed who was also a former speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly will meet with the leadership of the house.
The party source also revealed that in a situation whereby the problem is not resolved, the party will organize a press conference to make known the decision of the party
It will be recalled that the episode that happened not so long ago in December last year , the same Agboola who had been on suspension for 6 months, was assaulted by his own colleagues ,right inside the sitting chamber of the house.
