Barharudeen Sec School wins Ilorin East debate contest

Barharudeen secondary school, Ilorin has emerged winner of Ilorin East debate competition after defeating Cherubim and Seraphim College, Ilorin .
The debate contest which was sponsored by the Ilorin East Local Government was held at the Cherubim and Seraphim College hall on Wednesday.
The two schools slugged it out with each other in the contest with the topic, “It is better to train a male child to a female child,”.
In attendance were staffer of both schools as well as official of Quality Assurance Bureau of the state Ministry of Education.
The visiting school edged out their opponent with a total score of 202 marks as against 197 mark obtained by the host school.
Speaking shortly after the event, the Principal of Cherubim and Seraphim College (junior section), Ademola Oluwafemi said motive for the debate competition was to “catch them young”
“The purpose for this debate is to enable the students to open up on what they have learnt and more so to help them address issues using their reasoning technics to express feelings.
“It is meant to bring the students together to the acknowledgment of educational development in the state, ” he stressed.
Adaramola added that the debate competition of such should be expanded and broadened to capture many schools in Kwara.
“This exercise I think should be made broader to larger schools.
“Here at C & S we have cultural and debates exams in order to help the students better. My expectation at the end of this debate is that the students should be able to achieve their goals.
“I want to implore the winning school to be magnanimous in victory and the runners up schools should buckle up next time, ” the principal added.
Earlier, Dada Junior secondary school had lost to St. John Junior secondary with 193 marks as against 176 marks.
