KWHA to hold public hearing on Sports Commission Bill, tomorrow

Kwara State House of Assembly will on Friday hold Public Hearing on
the Kwara State Sports Commission Bill, at the Hallowed Chamber of the
Assembly Complex, beginning from 10am.
The Public Hearing will be conducted by the House Committee on Youth,
Sports, Culture, Tourism and Information.
According to reports, the House at its Plenary of Tuesday September
26th, 2019 referred the Kwara State Sports Commission and other
Connected Purposes Bill, 2019 to the Committee, to conduct Public
Hearing of the Bill.
To this end, various stakeholders in the sports industry in the state,
including the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development have been
invited.
Others are past and present managers of the Sports Council, Sports
Association Chairmen, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria and other
relevant bodies.
The invitees have been urged to furnish the Committee with position
papers on the Bill, either in hard or soft copies.
The law to provide for the establishment of Kwara State Sports
Commission and for Connected Purposes Bill was sponsored by Hon.
Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin (Ilorin Central), who is also the House
Leader.
If passed into law, the functions of the Commission will include, to
formulate and implement sports policies in the state, encourage mass
participation in all forms of sports, work with schools and other
relevant agencies in the Ministry of Education to develop school
sports, facilitate the training of athletes, coaches and sports
administrators in different sports in the state, among others.
