Kwara like minds trained 46 in ICT at Oloje

...as Kale Oloje roles out scholarship to indigent students

Kwara Like Minds in collaboration with Honourable Bolakale Oloje, Chairman, KWARMA, have trained about 46 students on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in Oloje in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The event which was held at Pakata Development Association Hall on Saturday has in attendance dignitaries across all works of live.
Speaking on the topic, “Importance of Computer and its usage in our society,” Magistrate Baraje Biliqis Abdulkadri charged parents on the need to embrace ICT as the world is going digital.
“There cannot be a better topic so important to the development of not just the young ones alone, but the generality of our society. I wish to begin by attempting an evolution of man and numerical record keeping.
“In the early days of man, fingers and toes were used for counting purpose. Permanent records of the result of counting were kept by putting permanent marks on the ground, wall or elsewhere using charcoal, chalk and possibly plant juice,” Baraje said.
She added that this was the state of man in recording and keeping his information, historical record and event until the invention of the ABACUS.
“ABACUS is the first type of machine to be called computer and used over 2000 years ago in China, Europe , Japan , India and it is still been used in some part of China today.
“The ABACUS is an instrument known to have been used for counting as far back 500BC and have contributed to development of computer today, which later gave birth to a good number of computer today known as Electronic Computer.
“The importance of computer and its usage in the modern day cannot be over – emphasized. Indeed so great is the importance of computer and so whelming is its impact on man that it has been described as the greatest factor of changes in our present daily life.
“Some of the fundamental areas of change in human life that has been as a result of computer and how it is again likely to affect our lives pattern and social relationship includes, Education, Government sectors, Office automation, Professions and Law.
“Other area of benefit of computer are Medical Science Patient Monitoring, Business, Tax administration, Census, Press and Publishing, Sports and Entertainment,” she affirmed.
The jurist however said keeping all the above mentioned important things in mind, if computers are used the right way; they are gifts of science to mankind.
“I congratulate you both the trainers. I vehemently believe that the knowledge you have acquired in the process of this training will have meaningful impact in your future endeavors,” Baraje stressed.
Earlier, the coordinator, Kale Oloje Educational Scheme, Abdulsalam Luqman Jaji described the ICT training as unique as it emphasizes true commitment to humanity.
“Today’s programme is unique. Not only because it defines true excellence , but also because it emphasizes true commitment to humanity in the world of knowledge explosion we live in today.
“Being ICT complaint has become one of the major determinant factors for success in the knowledge – driven economy. The recognition of this fact has made government at all levels to throw their weight behind the teaching and learning of ICT in schools.
“Without ICT, academic success is continually becoming a mirage even in our day to day activities. This is both in theory and practice,” Abdulsalam.
He further added that the government of Kwara State has done so well by fully integrating computer studies in our schools curriculum across all levels of education system. This is both in theory and practice.
“It is worthy of note, however , that no matter how hard any government strives towards making the knowledge of ICT accessible and affordable for the common man, a lot is still being left undone.
“Consequently, a lot of missing gaps have been witnessed. This includes , but not limited to inadequate training facilities , inadequate experts in the field , technically insane mode of power supply among other.
“Honourable Kale Oloje understands that building great minds in children is a necessity and he is ever ready to make functional education accessible to the common man so that they can become useful members in our society,” he said.
Highlight of the event includes given out scholarship to three indigent students to the tertiary institutions of their choice by Hon. Kale Oloje among others.
