Oyeleke’s Recall: Kwara INEC directs constituent to Nat’l hqtrs

The Kwara state chapter of the Independent National Electoral Commission has directed members of Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun state constituency in the Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State to its national headquarters over the recall of House Leader of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Hassan Oyeleke.
Speaking exclusively on the issue with Pilot Politics last night, the Public Relations Officers of the commission, Barrister Jacob Ayanda said the process of recall does not lie within the purview of the state, adding that it was only the national INEC that is the right position to handle the issue.
“They have been directed to our national headquarters because we are not the one that will recall him and there are certain criteria that must be met before such process”, Ayanda added.
The position of the state INEC is coming following recent silence from both camps over the issue since it first came to limelight.
Oyeleke had been accused by some members of his constituency of lack of quality representation and failure to positively impact the area, an allegation the House Leader denied.
They presented a certified copy of their letters of protest to the House, INEC and the commissioner of police over the matter then.
In the letter, they accused Oyeleke of failing in his responsibilities to initiate or support any motion towards delivering on any of his promise to the constituency, adding that he had failed to influence a single project since his first tenure in 2011 till date.
They alleged that he also caused discord and disunity in the party by manipulating wards chairmen to change preferred candidate in the 2017 council election among others.
Speaking with Pilot Politics, leader of the group, Hon Mufutau Adeyemo had said the issue is not about hatred for Oyeleke but the overall interest of the constituency adding that there is no going back on the process.
“Once INEC has accented our request, necessary machinery will be rolled out to actualise it”.
But Oyeleke in an interview with Pilot Politics had challenged his opponent to make pubic their interaction with INEC accusing them of hiding the truth now that they have been “silenced”
The Offa Local Government chapter of the party had accused a serving House of Representatives member and a former senatorial candidate of being behind the recall threat against Oyeleke.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Kwara South Senatorial District of the party, Chief John Adebayo Ogundiran, said facts before their disposal revealed that an ex-senatorial candidate groused over his loss in the 2015 general elections is behind the recall saga of the lawmaker.
