Prominent supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jesutega Onokpasa, a lawyer, has expressed strong disapproval over the recent appointment of Daniel Bwala as Special Adviser on Media to the President.
In a fiery video which has now gone viral, Onokpasa aired his grievances, describing the decision as a betrayal of loyal supporters who stood by Tinubu during his campaign.
Addressing Tinubu directly, Onokpasa said, “My dear president, how could you make such an appointment? Of who? Daniel Bwala? A man who insulted you and all of us during the campaign, calling you a drug dealer and baron?” He accused Tinubu of stabbing his supporters in the back by granting a key position to someone he described as untrustworthy and controversial.
Onokpasa expressed disappointment that loyalists like Yahaya Bello and Femi Fani-Kayode, who actively supported Tinubu’s presidential bid, appeared to be sidelined in favor of individuals who had opposed Tinubu’s candidacy. “We are the ones God used to put you in power. This is so painful, very, very painful,” he lamented, emphasizing that the decision was an insult to those who had dedicated themselves to Tinubu’s victory.
Highlighting Bwala’s past criticism of Tinubu, Onokpasa questioned the appointee’s credibility and trustworthiness. “Nobody respects him. Our party supporters don’t trust him. The opposition doesn’t trust him. What is the point?” he asked, calling the appointment a “macabre decision.”
Onokpasa, who insisted he sought no personal gain from Tinubu, framed the appointment as a broader issue of integrity and loyalty. “You give the impression that you can dump anybody, sacrifice anybody, and stab anyone in the back. How do people trust you?” he queried, adding that such actions could damage Tinubu’s standing with his supporters.
While concluding with prayers for Tinubu and the nation, Onokpasa reiterated his disappointment, describing the move as a betrayal and a disregard for the trust of Tinubu’s loyal base. “May the Lord Jesus Christ take care of you for this country. I’m disappointed, but may God bless you and Nigeria,” he said.
