The Head of Current and Public Affairs, TVC Station, Babajide Kolade Otitoju, has disclosed that majority of Nigeria politicians will have to do a character transplant due to the current situation of Nigeria and as things are not getting better.
Otitoju made this submission during the Kwara Visioners maiden inaugural lecture tagged; Governance and Leadership Recruitment in 21st Century Democracy, held at the University of Ilorin on Saturday.
He noted that politics and governance pervade every aspect of human lives, adding that to ignore the fact is to remain stubbornly ignorant, frustrated and isolated.
“Politics is important because it determines what governance means. Politics determines how world is being managed and it should be seen far beyond the role of the government at any level.
“Politics supposed to be used in advancing the well being of the citizens by ensuring the greatest happiness for the great number of people, ” he said.
The ace journalist further added that it can be used in creating an egalitarian society if the right people are in corridors of power
Also, the former Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attairu Jega in his lecture said that electronic transmission is the best way of eliminating electoral malpractices.
“There are still areas where internet is not good but, if you can have transmit devices for example, to 70, 75 or 80 to 90 per cent of the polling units, you have substantially deviated from electoral malpractices.
“Those who want to be leaders, they have to be visionary like Kwara Visioners. Because, to develop a vision is long term. So, you need to be persistent and consistent,” Jega stressed.
In the same vein, another speaker, Dr. Tope Fasua revealed that the young people are the ones that will build the country as the older ones have no more energy.
Fasua affirmed that the older ones can only supervise the young ones and support them as they need to begin the good works.
“The only asset you have in Nigeria is not crude oil rather, it is the youth,” he said.
