Court remands three suspected fraudsters

On Tuesday, the trio of Yunus Yahaya, Saheed Sheriff Olalekan and Usman Adebayo were arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin by the Nigerian police force on charges bordering on obtaining money under false pretense.

According to the police First information report obtained by National Pilot, the offenses listed against them are criminal conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence contrary to section 97 of penal code law and section 1(1)(a) of Advance fee fraud and others related offence ACT 2006.

The case which was reported at D Division police Station at Adewole was transferred to Anti-Cultism section of the state headquarters section on 15th of November for discreet investigation.

The police disclosed that they rescued one Ibrahim Babangida a Nigerian, based in Canada from a bush where some group of people held him hostage at Ogundele Farm, along Ogbomosho express way, Ilorin, following some information they got.

The victim, Babangida noted that sometimes in the year 2020 and 2021 respectively. One Ismaila Alade Yusuf a.k.a Okin and others accomplice fraudulently obtained from him total sum of ten million naira (N10,000,000.00k) and twenty five thousand US dollars ($25,000.00).

He added that upon this fraudulent act, he arrived in Nigeria, and lodged in Whitefield Hotel, Adewole Area, Ilorin and that the said Okin and his cohort deceived him through their phone No 07063907368.

After which they conveyed him to the bush through some of his accomplices later known to be the first defendant, Yunus Yahaya, Tunde (surname unknown) and three others now at large.

Where he was rescued by a team of policemen attached to ‘D’ Division, Adewole.

The police preliminary investigation led to the arrest of the three accused, Yunus Yahaya, Saheed Sheriff Olalekan and Usman Adebayo.

Investigation also revealed that Yahaya, Olalekan and Adebayo criminally conspired with ‘Okin’ and others who are now at-large, perpetrate the illicit act of defrauding Babangida.

While the police stressed that frantic effort is emplaced toward the arrest of others.

In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Mohammed Ibrahim ordered the remand of the 3 suspects and also adjourned the matter till 3rd of December for further mention.
