The Kwara State Government has charged the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to further reduce road crashes on highways especially during the yuletide period.
The state government applauded the FRSC for curbing road accidents across the state owing to their sheer ingenuity and aggressive advocacy, urging them to continue in that trend.
The Secretary to the Government of Kwara State, Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold stated this at the weekend during his induction as Honourary Special Marshal of the FRSC on the occasion of the 2017 Sectoral Workshop organised by the Special Marshal at their new office complex, Airport Road, Ilorin.
“As we approach the yuletide period, I wish to seek for further collaboration between the state government and the FRSC so that they can remove those ills that are usually associated with the ember months.”
He urged the FRSC to sustain the sanity on our highways by ensuring that reckless driving; overloading, over-speeding and unworthy vehicles on the highways are properly checked to reduce road crashes.
According to Gold, the state government will continue to support and assist the FRSC adding that the Honourary Special Marshal conferred on him will spur him to aspire for full membership of the Special Marshal.
Alhaji Gold particularly appreciated the Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kwara State Command, Sunday Maku for the honour done him and promised to justify the confidence reposed on him.
Responding, Mr. Maku enjoined the public to join the FRSC in reducing road crashes drastically in the state and Nigeria at large.
He said it is perilous for anyone to make use of his mobile phones while on the wheels.
In his remarks, the Kwara State Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Deacon Mike Atoyebi appealed to all motorists to be mindful of their actions on the highways to ensure the safety of other road users.
He described the sector workshop as first of its kind following the commissioning of the ultra-modern office. Speaking further, Atoyebi commended the SSG as the first government official to approach the commission for the training and re-training of the government drivers.
Other inductees include the Chief Executive Officer of KAM wire Nigeria Ltd., Alhaji Kamardeen Yusuf, Chairman of Padson Nig. Ltd, Chief Hezekiah Adediji and Fiolu Pharmacy boss, Apostle Joseph Awotuyi, among others.
