Ace movie marketer, Almaroof goes broke

By Adebayo Olodan

These are definitely not the best of time for leading movie marketer, Alhaji Maroof Ekundayo Afolayan, the Chief Executive Officer of Almaroof Standard Investment Ltd.
The economic meltdown, which has affected virtually every sector of the economy may have taken its toll on this thorough-bred businessman from Oro in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State as he no longer grace events like in the past due to his lean purse.
According to sources close to him, Almaroof has also had to cut down on his employees lately due to paucity of funds.
“Unlike in the past when he will spend huge amount of money to lead some artistes on a trip to countries like Germany, United Arab Emirate (UAE) or the United Kingdom, Almaroof these days avoid functions even when other marketers are in attendance.
“He has reduced a sizable number of his workforce as the money is no longer coming from the movie industry and Almaroof also complained that he is not getting enough money from his hostels at Kwara State University, Malete and his other property,” the source disclosed.
Recall that about two years ago, Almaroof and his brother Alhaji Kazeem Afolayan, the CEO of Epsalum Movie Productions sponsored Yemi My Lover, Adebayo Tijani, Wale Akorede, Ojopagogo, Afeez Eniola and Mercy Ebosele among others on a trip to Berlin in Germany for leisure.
