Security bedrock for academic excellence, says NAKSS

 

Security of lives and property of both staff and students have been identified as the basis for academic excellence in any tertiary institution.

The President, National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS), Comrade Dosunmu Kamal  Ashola stated this during a visit to the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, as part of activities lined up for Harmony Variety Week 2017 organised by the association.

The President, who is a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, lauded the management of the polytechnic for maintaining a stable academic calendar for the past five years, stressing that it has increased the interest of applicants in the institution.

According to him, “NAKSS is highly impressed with the numerous achievements recorded by the Elelu-led administration, especially in terms of relative peace on campus, eradication of cultism, infrastructural development as well as security of lives and property among others.

He added that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the peace being enjoyed in the institution is sustained.

Responding, the Rector of the polytechnic, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu lauded members of the association for being a group of responsible students.

Elelu stressed that for the nation’s economy to improve, government at all levels must concentrate on skills development in tertiary institutions.

He added that lots have been achieved on BSc/HND disparity as the paramilitary have started implementing it.

The Rector advised NAKSS to be good ambassadors of the state by ensuring that peace reign in their respective institutions.
