By Matthew Denis

Officers from the ‘A Division’ of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested a middle-aged woman for abandoning two of her children at Young Legacy, a popular motor park in Ilorin, the state capital, on Monday.

An eyewitness who craved anonymity said the woman simply identified as Toyin, walked into the park around 10am with the children aged three and seven years, only to abandon them at the facility.

“When we noticed the woman leaving the park without her two children, we immediately stopped and interrogated her and Toyin claimed she hails from Ijagbo in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State,” the source said.

According to Toyin, she decided to abandon the two children from different fathers, as she could no longer cater for their feeding. She said she lives in a dilapidated building at Ibrahim Taiwo Road and she earns a living doing menial jobs at a local restaurant in the area.

The woman claimed that since life became unbearable for her, she decided to abandon the children in Ilorin and travel to Lagos State.

According to the source, policemen from the nearby ‘A Division’ were invited to apprehend the woman.

When contacted last night, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said the incident has been reported adding that, “The case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department for further investigation.”
