The acting Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, has appointed Frank Mba, an Assistant Commissioner of Police as the new spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force.

Mba takes over from Moshood Jimoh, an acting Deputy Commissioner of Police who has been redeployed to ‘other national assignment’.

Until his appointment, he was working at the Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Ikoyi- Lagos.

The posting is with immediate effect.

Mba, a lawyer, is an alumnus of the University of Lagos where he studied Law.

He also has a Masters Degree in Law from the University of Dundee, Scotland- United Kingdom.

A product of the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, where he had his initial police training, he is a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy, Quantico- USA.

He also holds a Certificate in National and International Security from the Harvard University, USA.

He is a former federal police spokesperson.

Mba was a former police spokesman- both at the national and the Lagos State Command levels and an experienced communicator and image maker.

The new Inspector General of Police has therefore charged him to bring his wealth of experience to bear in revamping the image of the Force, improving the relationship between the citizens and the police, bridging existing communication gap between the police and its stakeholders, and assisting the IGP in realising his mission and vision for the Force and the nation,” a statement from Force headquarters noted.

The new spokesman has attended some of the finest Law Enforcement trainings, both within and outside Nigeria such as  Countering Violent Extremism and Police Leadership Course at the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), Roswell, New Mexico, USA (2018); Strategic Leadership and Command Course among others.

He was a member of the Nigeria Police Contingent to the United Nations Peace-Keeping Mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007, where he distinguished himself through a combination of hard work, professionalism, and discipline, thereby earning himself the prestigious UN Medal.

Mba has since assumed duty as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has spoken on the change in the Public Relations Office of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

CUPP spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, in a statement, said the CUPP was excited about the development.

He said: “We welcome the news of the sacking of the Nigeria Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, who brought so much shame and public ridicule to the Nigeria Police Force.

“Jimoh acted shamelessly and behaved all through his reign as a cop gone rogue.

“Jimoh and his paymaster, former IG Idris, will forever be remembered as the two men who dragged the Nigeria Police Force through the darkest moment in our nation’s history and will forever remain in the hall of shame.”

Promises highest possible level of professional leadership

The acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has warned officers and men of the force to abstain from unethical conducts capable of tarnishing the image of the force.

Adamu was on Tuesday appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as acting IGP following the retirement of his predecessor, Ibrahim Idris, at the age of 60.

The new IG gave the warning at the official handover ceremony on Wednesday in Abuja.

He urged the police personnel to join him in the course of changing the narratives of policing the country for good.

The police boss promised to address the issue of welfare of personnel and other reward regimes that had been a problem in the force.

According to him, the absence of this level of leadership has always been the missing link in policing Nigeria.

He said the lost glory of the force which had remained a concern to governments at all levels and Nigerians would be restored.

“I will provide the highest possible level of professional and responsible leadership to you, while trusting that you shall march hand-in-hand with me as professional colleagues,” he said.

He noted that the upcoming 2019 general elections would be an avenue where professionalism and commitment of the force would be subjected to scrutiny.

Adamu said the elections were a priority to the leadership of the force, adding that there would soon be deployment of personnel for the elections.

He noted that the force would work with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and sister security agencies for peaceful election.

Adamu urged politicians to assist the police and other law enforcement agencies in sustaining the gains recorded in the country’s democratic journey.

He urged them to play politics within the dictates of the rules guiding it.

“On our part, we assure the nation of our determination to play our roles fairly but firmly toward guaranteeing peaceful electoral process.

“We shall not hesitate to deploy our potent asset to deal firmly and decisively with electoral deviants.

“With your support, I am confident that we have the operational capacity to ensure the success of the elections,” he said.

He commended Idris for his professional service to the country.

Earlier, the outgone IG commended officers and men of the force for their support and commitment to his administration.

He charged them to extend same support and commitment to his predecessor.
