Sand Eagles first to qualify for 2019 World Cup

Despite not preparing adequately for the ongoing African Beach soccer competition, the Super Sand Eagles yesterday became the first team to qualify for the FIFA Beach 2019 World Cup in Paraguay after defeating Egypt 7-6.
With the result, the Super Sand Eagles has also qualified for the final of the CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2019 in Sharm, El Sheikh, Egypt.
It was a memorable day for Abu Azeez, not only because he scored four goals in Nigeria’s victory but also he scored his 100th goal for Nigeria in the match.
This will be the team’s sixth Beach Soccer World Cup participation. In their last appearance at Bahamas 2017, they failed to progress beyond the group stage.
The Sand Eagles rallied back after they suffered defeat in their opening game against defending champion Senegal via penalty.
Sand Eagles finished second in their group after they defeated Tanzania 4-2 and qualified to face Egypt in the Semi final.
Meanwhile, the second and final qualification place for Africa will be decided today (Thursday) when Senegal and Morocco contest the other semi final.
The final of the qualifying tournament will be played on Friday.
