Award: ECOWAS Youth Parliament honours ex-UITH CMD

ECOWAS Youth Parliament (EYP) has presented a meritorious award of honour to former Chief Medical Director of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Prof. Dr. Afolayan Olajoko, for his humanitarian services.
The EYP presented Afolayan the award in his office recently.
The award, titled; “Icon of Humanitarian Service 2018” was in recognition of the Professor’s uprightness, doggedness, excellent, diligent discharge of duties, with absolute fairness and accountability, immense contribution for the societal transformation and support to the youths and students.
The Deputy Speaker of EYP and member of Burkina Faso delegate, Comrade Olasunkani Bankole, while presenting the award, said Olajoko had been a philanthropist to all the youth and the less privileged.
Responding, the award recipient said that he was surprised how the parliament knows much about him, saying that he only did what was expected of him and expected nothing in return.
“I was surprised when you called me and started mentioning places I have been and services I have rendered and recently, after stepping down as National President of All Progressives Union.
“The kind of achievement my team have attained in different ways and the completion of the town hall at Ipee, Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, which the foundation was laid since 1979.
“On behalf of my Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. Suleiman Age and members of my faculty, I welcome all of you and thank you for the honour,” he said.
Speaking further, Olajoko promised to continue contributing his quota to make the society a better place for all.
The award was presented by Vanessa Koffi, a member of EYP from Ivory Coast. Also present were; Benita Duke, from Cameroon and Alimata Tiendrebeogo, from Burkina Faso.
Olajoko is currently the Dean of Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, UITH and was UITH Chief Medical Director from 2001 to 2003, former Chairman Medical and Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, UITH, former Chairman Education Committee, School of Medical Laboratory Scientist, ABUTH, Zaria, Examiner at National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
