Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress was never prepared to lead the nation when it took over power in 2015.
The flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general elections made the assertion on Saturday during the national convention of the party in Abuja.
According to Atiku, the responsibility of restoring the glory of Nigeria is bestowed on the PDP, adding that the victory of the party is the victory of Nigerians.
The former VP who believes that the country is currently at a critical juncture, called on all politicians to work together to return Nigerians to the part of growth and development.
He said, “The APC has proven itself to be unequipped to lead the nation. They have shown themselves to be corrupt, in fact, the most corrupt, sectional and divisive party that was never prepared to lead this country. If we had the idea of what it took to lead a diverse, multiethnic and multi-religious country like Nigeria.
“The responsibility, therefore, is for us to arrest the downward spiral of the Nigerian nation and save the country from even greater calamities. This is our collective responsibility.”
“We must set aside our differences. We must bring forth our brightest lights and position ourselves to rescue, restore and rebuild the foundation.”
Convention declared open

The acting National Chairman of PDP, Elder Yomi Akinwomi has declared the convention open as he addressed the delegates and party members at the venue of the Convention, Eagle square ,Abuja
In his own words, he said, “It gives me a great pleasure to welcome the people to this historic occasion, today is the day the new leadership of our party will emerge, and I’m very happy to recognize myself with the great party.
“I call on all PDP members, to bury our personal and collective differences and put the interest of PDP and Nigeria above all. We all know the situation and condition Nigerians are, the APC government has lost credence in the sight of Nigerians, I hereby declare the convention open”, he said.
Chairman Board Of Trustee, Senator Wali Jibril CON in his own address, congratulates the members of the People’s Democratic Party for the successful organisation of the National convention.
He added that, “I call on all members to remain resilient and united the PDP is on the path again, Nigerians can’t wait to return to unique leadership that the PDP always offer the nation”.
Alhaji Ahmad Fintiri, the chairman of the Convention planning committee and the Governor of Adamawa, while addressing the gathering said, “The political sportsmanship of our party has advanced to the most sophisticated level”
He also thanked the outgoing National working committee for leading the party successfully, adding that there tenure will end on December 9 and that is when the new executives will take the mantle of leadership from them.
In his goodwill message, the chairman of PDP Governors forum, the executive Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal ,appreciates the members of the organising committee of the Convention
He also assure that the party will continue to work for the youth and ensure the involvement of the youths in the governing of the country.
Tambuwal also noted that the party is ready to create an enabling environment for all aspirants ,who are aspiring for any position through the platform of People’s Democratic Party.
He noted that the Forum will work together to rescue the country from the hold of the ruling party APC, he said, “We the PDP governors are determined to work together to rescue Nigeria collectively”.
