KWSG to incorporate photographers into entrepreneurship scheme
By Mike Adeyemi
The Kwara State Government said it has perfected plans for training and retraining of photographers in the state.
The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ishak Sabi made this known yesterday, in Ilorin during the induction of the new executives of Nigeria Professional Photographers, Kwara State chapter.
He said, “The first photography studio in the state is my ministry. We have opened a register last month to incorporate photographers into an entrepreneur training after which you will be certified.
“We want to inculcate you into the state government machinery and synergise with you.”
The commissioner however charged the new leaders of the union to abide by the rules and ethics of the profession.
In his remarks, the MD/Editor in Chief, National Pilot Newspaper, Alh. Billy Ademola charged the photographers to sharpen their skills in the profession in line with modern practice.
Adedamola, who was the Guest Speaker and was represented by the Head of Production, National Pilot Newspaper, Olatunde Rufai said, photography has moved from the era of analogue to digital, hence the need to catch up with the modern trend.
According to him, photography for all intents and purposes is a form of art which requires creative mind and imagination.
“A good photographer must be able to look at something ordinary, or even extraordinary, and find a million different ways to interpret what he’s seeing and convey those interpretations in beautiful, meaningful pictures.
“As you may have already heard, composition is everything in photography. Even if you aren’t concerned about the artistic side of your craft, composition is still key in producing good photographs,” Adedamola said.
He added that being a good photographer is more than just mastering your camera or owning the latest and most expensive camera gear, rather it’s about the inherent qualities that allow you to see beauty in the most unexpected places and capture that beauty in a photograph.
“So what makes a good photographer depends on what photography niche you’re in. Every niche demands different desirable qualities.
“Pet photographers need to know how to properly interact and connect with animals, sports photographers need to be quick, strong and agile to get the best shots and so on”, he said.
The veteran journalist further charged the gathering on the need to be effective in business management.
