Some youths of the Kwara State chapter of the APC have accused the Special Assistant to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on Strategy, Mallam Gidado Abdullateef Alakawa of embezzling the party’s distributed to party members during the last Sallah anniversary in the state.
The group in a video which went viral in many online and social media platforms last week accused the governor’s aide of absconding with the fund meant which was provided reportedly as a palliative during the last Eid-el-Adha.
According to the youth who where about twenty in number accused Alakawa of theft adding that he has refused absconded from office and went into hiding since the incident.
“Some members of his ward are here with us. We have tried to locate him to the Governor’s office and we are now at where he said is his senatorial office but we didn’t find him.
“He is a thief and we want the Governor to relieve him of the appointment because he is working to deny the Governor a second term ticket. This message must get to the governor. Instead of working for the governor and the party, he is busy amassing wealth and building mansions in the Asa within how many months of appointment. He is not fit for such assignment and appointment’, they alleged.
But speaking in a telephone chat with National Pilot last night, Alakawa denied all the allegations and challenged his accusers to come out with proof to support their claims.
He said: “Thank you very much my brother, what I know about the set of young people you talk about is that they claimed to be member of one political association and that there was some money with respect to the last Sallah celebration. That was what the video was all about. I don’t know whether you are also in possession of another video that was done by ward chairmen in Asa local government.
“In my capacity, there was an arrangement for party members in each ward during Sallah which was meant for the party structure and given to the ward chairmen across board. I don’t know what happened and where those young men came from which saying that the money was supposed to be given to them. I was never sent to them and they were never the rightful beneficiary to whatever was given during Sallah and the true owners of the package got it.
Talking about appointment and amassing wealth, as I speak to you, I have not been sworn in or allocated any office. Since my appointment in January, no kobo of government has been passed to me or through me. You can make you investigation at the Ministry of Finance. How will I be able to access fund in a cabinet that I have not been in which the governor can do at his convenient time. The issue of amassing wealth does not even come up.
I will rather say that is politics taken too far. Those set of young men where in my house yesterday to apologise that they where mislead, misinformed and used but I have told them that part of the condition for truce is for them to go back and do another video that will nullify that first one they did.
“I am a man of known means before I was appointed and I have had cause to get myself engaged. I have Masters and Ph.D in Performing Arts and I have lots of things as regards Theatre for development. a know farmer and two time party secretary of APC in Asa and a former State secretary of PDP and state Vice chairman of APC among others. So it wasn’t as if somebody just picked me from somewhere”, he added.
