The Federal Government has been urged to expedite action on the rehabilitation work going on along Eyekonrin/Oko-Olowo axis of Ilorin-Saadu-Jebba express way.
This was contained in a statement issued in Ilorin yesterday by the Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA) and signed by its National President, Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salau and the National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Uthman Jagunma.
As a result of the ongoing rehabilitation, heavy trucks now pass through the city of Ilorin due to the deplorable state of the axis.
IEYDA in a letter to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing said that the present development was dangerous to the residents of the town.
The association also expressed worries that with the high influx and reckless driving of the haulage vehicles, this portends serious danger to the lives of residents of the Kwara State capital.
It noted that the people were not used to heavy movement of lorries and as such had created palpable fear among the residents.
The leadership of the group however expressed optimism that the FG will do the needful considering what might be the consequences of a further delay.
The statement therefore maintained that prompt response by the relevant government ministry, department and agency would enable the vehicles to return to their normal route.
