…warns against campaign of calumny

A group has called for the suspension of the Chairman Governing Council of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Saka Mahmoud over alleged gross insubordination.
The group also warned against campaign of calumny against the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed following the crisis that engulfed KWASU recently.
Speaking during a press briefing at E-Phoenix Hotel, GRA, Ilorin, on Monday, the Chairman, Association of Kwara Students Youth and Alumni of KWASU, Alhaji Sa’eed Bolaji Yusuf, “As concerned Kwara State youths and Alumni of the Kwara State University whose lives are tied to the well-being of the institution, we have decided to add our voice to the ongoing developments in our alma mater.”
The group however frowned at undue interference by Dr Ali-Agan of the University of Ilorin and IEDPU on the selection process of the new VC and for casting aspersion on some of those vying for the exalted office.
Speaking further, Yusuf condemned the call by the Ilorin Emirates Descendants Progressives Union (IEDPU) for the replacement of Prof. Na’Allah with another candidate from Kwara Central.
“It will amount to injustice if a candidate from the Emirate is appointed again after administering the institution for 10 years.
“We also need to express our surprise at the flagrant and unruly attitude of Professor Saka Mahmoud another self-appointed Messiah of the outgoing VC, who chose on his own to shut down the university based on some flimsy excuses, when he was aware that a substantive Acting Vice Chancellor had been appointed for the university by the visitor. We see this as a serious affront on the visitor as the statement was released when Prof. Adeyemi (Ag.VC) was in a meeting that Prof Mahmoud deliberately chose not to attend.”
It also urged the Kwara State Governor to take decisive actions on the issue of the institution and ensure that the efforts of the founding fathers do not go down in vain.
“We urge the governor to re-open the institution and immediately suspend the Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Saka Mahmud for gross insubordination.
Call, Prof AbdulRasheed Na’Allah to order and ask him to stay clear of the Vice Chancellor’s office following the approval of his terminal leave.
“The Governing Council should source only the best candidate that can drive growth and development in the university based on academic accomplishments, crave for excellence and fantastic track record in similar executive capacity.
“The Governor should direct the council to base their recommendation on fairness, equity and justice and to recommend candidates from the South and the Northern part of the state only.
The group said Prof. Kenneth Adeyemi should continue in his role as Acting VC and work with the Governing Council to complete the work of engaging and naming a substantive Vice Chancellor.
