The nation has been plunged into mourning following the passing of Dada Habi Yar’Adua, the mother of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua at her home in Katsina after a period of illness.
Tributes have been pouring in from across the country, celebrating the life of a woman many have described as a true matriarch.
In a heartfelt statement, the president of the 8th Nigerian Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki reflected on Dada Habi Yar’Adua’s remarkable qualities.
“Dada Habi Yar’Adua, the beloved mother of my dear friend and our late President, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, was a true matriarch,” Saraki wrote, emphasizing her “warmth, grace, and compassion” that extended to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Saraki recounted a recent encounter with her in Katsina State, which has left a lasting impression. “My last encounter with her in Katsina State is a memory I will always treasure—filled with her kindness and wisdom. It was a reminder of the remarkable person she was,” he shared, highlighting the deep impact she had on those around her.
As the nation grapples with the loss, Saraki expressed solidarity with the Yar’Adua family, offering prayers for the deceased.
“Today, I join the nation to mourn the passing of this incredible woman. May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant her a place in Al Jannah Firdaus. My thoughts and prayers are with the Yar’Adua family during this difficult time.” Saraki concluded.
Affectionately known as “Dada,” she was also the mother of two other prominent figures, the late General Shehu Musa Yar’adua and Senator Abdu Soja Yar’adua. Her influence and legacy extend across multiple generations of the Yar’Adua family, shaping the lives of her children who went on to serve the nation with distinction.
