Judges in Kwara State will from Monday August 3rd proceed on their annual vacation.
According to a public document signed by the Chief Registrar, a copy which was sighted by National Pilot, the vacation is in compliance with other 9, Rule 4 (2) of the Kwara State High Court Civil Procedure Rules.
“The State High Court shall be on vacation from Monday 3rd of August, 2020 to Monday 21st September, 2020, a period of one month.
The supporting staff of the High Court judges shall take their annual leave during the same period, all honourable judge are expected to resume work on Tuesday 22nd September, 2020
“Their lordships, Justice A. I. Yusuf, H.A. Saleeman and A.S. Oyinloye shall serve as vacation judges to hear and determine urgent civil and criminal cases during the period of vacation”, the statement read.
The annual vacation coming at a time of the covid-19 pandemic is expected to further increase the effect of the coronavirus on the judiciary that many lawyers are already lamenting about.
This is coming just as the State government has ordered another round of lockdown on the judiciary in the state.
Many cases were stalled last week as a result of the order when judges were not on seat to hear cases listed for hearing.
According to a statement by signed by the chief Register, “It has been observed that the recent resumption of work in the judiciary has led to an upsurge in the number of staff and members of public trooping into the court premises without strict compliance of the covid-19 protocol put in the place the state technical committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi.
