Kwara tertiary institutions assured of improved govt’s support

Kwara State-owned tertiary institutions have been assured of enhanced support from the state government.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology,Barr. Abdullahi Alikinla gave the assurance on Friday while addressing the management of the state –owned tertiary institutions at the conference room of the ministry in Ilorin.
While presenting his agenda for those institutions, the commissioner said he would pursue all-inclusive student-centred tertiary education system adding that he is focused on finding lasting solution to the problem of salary arrears.
Parts of his plans include; ensuring annual Tertiary Institutions Community Impact Assessment (ATICIA), addressing the scourge of cultism within and outside the campuses and introducing sustainable Internally Generated Revenue System (KWASTEFUND).
Alikinla applauded the management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete for being prudent in its activities while charging other tertiary institutions in the state to emulate KWASU.
Also discussed at the meeting according to the Commissioner was solution to the incessant strike by tertiary institution workers in the state and the shutting down of College of Health Technology Offa, over students’ unrest.
In attendance at the meeting was the Vice Chancellor, KWASU, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’ Allah, Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Alh. Mas’ ud Elelu, Provost College of Education, Ilorin, Dr Abdulraheem Yusuf and his Oro counterpart, Dr Olayinka Olowonirejuaro among others.
