Two suspects, 27- year-old Olamide Alhassan and 28-year-old Joseph
Emmanuel are cooling their heels in police net for impersonating
Nigeria Air Force (NAF) personnel.
It was gathered that the suspects were arrested by men of the Nigeria
Air Force in Ilorin and handed over to Kwara State Police Command,
penultimate Friday.
According to a police source, the suspect aside parading themselves as
officers of the Army, were also intimidating, harassing and
terrorising residents of the state capital.
“The suspects are working with others who are at large. They extort
money and valuable from people at gunpoint. They wear camouflage,
which they use to intimidate residents,” the source further said.
It was further gathered that the Air Force personnel acting on tip
off, rounded up the two suspects, while the leader of the syndicate,
simply identified as Aliyu escaped arrest.
“The suspects were later transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad (SARS) office for discreet investigation. During interrogation,
the suspects confessed to the crime.
“They revealed that the gun, which they use for their operation is in
custody of their ring leader, Aliyu,” the source added.
It was learnt that the suspects are working with the police to enable
the arrest of other members of the gang that are at large.
However, efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP
Ajayi Okasanmi on the development proved abortive as calls to his
mobile phones were not picked and messages not responded to at the
time of filing this report.
