The much-anticipated rollout of the first locally refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Dangote Refinery is just around the corner.
Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, announced that the refinery’s first batch of petrol will be available in the market within the next 48 hours. This significant milestone was revealed during a press briefing at the refinery located in Lagos.
During the briefing, Dangote presented a sample of the refined petrol, emphasizing its superior quality compared to what is currently available in the Nigerian market.
According to him, the petrol produced at the refinery’s state-of-the-art facility, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is clearer and promises to deliver better engine protection.
Dangote further explained that the availability of locally refined petrol will drastically reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imports, which in turn, is expected to ease inflationary pressures and stabilize the Naira against the dollar.
He expressed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and his administration for their support, highlighting the conducive environment created for the refinery’s success.
“I would like to salute the people of Nigeria and the government of President Bola Tinubu for giving us the platform for growth, development, and prosperity. I also want to thank him personally for creating the idea of the Naira for crude. Doing that will give Naira stability.
“As we have this refinery working, it will show the true consumption of Nigeria; we can track every loaded truck and ship,” Dangote said
He also mentioned that with the refinery in full operation, Nigeria will gain more accurate insights into its actual fuel consumption, as every truck and ship carrying the product will be meticulously tracked.
Moreover, Dangote assured that the refinery’s output will not only satisfy domestic demand but also cater to the needs of sub-Saharan Africa. He pointed out that the clearer and purer petrol produced at the refinery will protect vehicle engines from damage, a common issue with the current lower-quality products in circulation.
“This is the sample of the petrol. You see it as a different colour but that is the real deal. You are now going to have a good and real product,” Dangote concluded.
