The Kwara State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has urged the state government to look inward in clearing the remaining backlogs of salaries owed its members even as it appreciated Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for the N4billion loan facility obtained to address worker’s plight.
The state President of the Union, Cmr. Yusuf Ayinla Salihu made this known in a statement signed by the Secretary, Cmr. Hotonu Rafiu on Saturday.
He said, “We want to appreciate Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his magnanimity to secure N4 billion loan facility despite all odds for part payment of salary arrears of council workers, teachers, pensioners and ex- political office holders. The N1.150 billion allocated to LGs has in no doubt brought succour to the workers and their families.
“As we express our profound gratitude to the Governor, we want to plead and urge him to look inward for means of settling the remaining salaries backlogs because we still have some councils battling with arrears between five to eight months. This will enable the workers perform their statutory responsibility to their various communities effectively.”
The Chairman however appealed to the state government to also take over payment of salaries of Junior Secondary School (JSS) Teachers.
The statement equally appreciated the decision to return 17 revenue items to the local governments with a promise to surpass the income generated by the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) in that regard.
Furthermore, the union pleaded for the implementation of financial benefit for the year 2016 and 2017 promotion, as it will encourage the beneficiaries to be more diligent at work.
