Kwara 2019: PDP, APC, 30 other parties to sign peace pact, today

In its bid to ensure a violence free election, the Kwara State chapter of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has invited all political parties in the state that fielded candidates in the 2019 elections for the signing of a peace accord.The event which is scheduled to take place Thursday (today) at the INEC head office in Ilorin, is scheduled for 10 am.

According to the Publicity Secretary of the commission, Barrister Jacob Ayanda, in a whatsapp message last night, the peace accord became necessary in view of the incessant clashes that have been witnessed in the state recently.

INEC has brokered similar pact in other parts of the country in the last month as part of effort to conduct a free, fair and credible election that would be acceptable in the country and within international diplomatic circles.

Other civil societies and groups, including media organisations have also embarked on similar peace exercise for governorship and presidential candidates.

‘I am directed to inform and accordingly invite you to the signing of peace accord by all political parties and their candidates … at INEC state office, Ilorin by 10:00am… This peace accord signing becomes expedient in view of the incessant clashes here and there’, the statement added.

Ilorin, the state capital had become a theatre of war of sort following the activities of political thugs who unleashed mayhem on the citizens of the state and destroying prosperity worth million of naira.

Agbaji, the ancestral home of the Senate President and national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Bukola Saraki came under heavy attack on Sunday as suspected thugs believed to be loyal to the Basheer Bolarinwa-led executive of the APC destroyed over 50 cars and damaged residential buildings.
